Ihave never understood the logic of wearing your most grungy clothes for travel — those velour tracksuits and pajama-styled outfits just make me cringe. I understand the need to be comfortable and the practicality of wearing clothes that are both crushproof and allow your skin to breathe, but that is no excuse for looking like a mess. If you need some inspiration, I suggest you google Sonam Kapoor or Jennifer Aniston’s airport style. It is about understanding how to combine comfort with being chic. After all, what you wear while you travel is also the first outfit of your holiday. It is what you will arrive in at your destination, and first impressions count! Here’s are some recommendations for your airport wardrobe. Bag When it comes to travel the bag is what matters most — you need it to be roomy yet not heavy, well-designed, yet practical. It is really hard to find a bag that ticks all the boxes yet does not break the bank. Which is why we like Carpisa Poligono Bag. Firstly, it comes in a chic range of colours including white, tan and blue. It has large handles so sits comfortably on your shoulder. The inner pockets ensure that you can be well organised. But best of all, it has interchangeable sides, one zip-up and you can change the look of your bag. This makes it truly travel friendly as you can vary the look of the bag! Best of all, it’s for under Dhs250.

Of course it has to be sneakers — they’re comfortable and are currently every fashion girl’s best friend. In addition, there’s no metal in the shoes, so they’re security check-friendly. In Adidas Originals, the German sports company shows that they know their sneakers — the Retro style sneaker infusing style with modern technology was the best seller in 2016. The Adidas stripes spell sporty chic. With a huge range, there is bound to be a pair that works for you. You don’t have to fall into the designer sneaker trap — you are just paying extra for a name. If it’s sneakers you want, then stick to a brand that knows their sportswear. (Adidas Original on namshi.com, prices start at Dhs285)

Sunglasses

These are almost as important as your passport and boarding card. When you land after a long flight you are going to be tired and there is nothing you can do about that. For the puffy eyes though, you can style your face with a pair of fabulous sunglasses. There is nothing like a pair of shades to add some oomph to your look. Again, there is no need to go designer — many high street stores have great options. The only must with sunglasses is that they protect from sunrays, so they must have UV blocking. Of all the high street brands we love the range at & Other stories — they are full of fun. Be it florals, tiger print or brightcoloured frames these are sunglasses that are bound to make you smile.

Check out the separates at The Minimalist. As the name suggests, this brand is all about no fuss clothing, just what you need when you are travelling. Its pricing is comparable to high street even though it is a niche brand. Operating from Bahrain and Hong Kong, you can buy their pieces through their representative in Dubai after checking out the Instagram account. They make to order too! Made from easy to wear, wrinkle-free fabric, the garments are free size and so are all about ease. The t-shirts and sweatshirts can be layered and you can team them with a pair of comfy trousers from their own collection or your own fave pair of jeans.

Most brands make special travel-friendly sizes of their skincare — it’s a must to cleanse your skin when you arrive on flight and put on a skin-hydrating crème. We also recommend eye cream. A simple travel hack is to buy empty 100 ml bottles that are available at Sephora or at most chemists and fill them with whatever you have on your dressing table. If you do want to invest in a travel beauty product we suggest you buy Apa Tooth Gloss. The Apa beauty range is the brainchild of Dr Michael Apa the celebrity aesthetic dentist who works between New York and Dubai and believes we should treat teeth as an extension of our daily beauty regime. Brushing your teeth is a must before you land. You would’nt after all, leave your house without brushing your teeth. Then apply some of this tooth gloss. It has green tea to ensure there is no bad breath and also nourishes gums and teeth. A great pick me up thanks to its fresh taste, it also ensures that you keep your mouth in the best of health while you indulge in all those holiday cheat meals.
