Tragedy by fire
In a tragic incident that served as a searing example of Sharjah’s fire safety problem, a 37-year-old worker died due to suffocation after a fire erupted in his room, attached to a car wash centre in Sharjah where he was employed. The air-conditioner short circuited and set the room — built out of wood — on fire, causing his death on the second day of Eid Al Fitr.
