Fire prevention tips you need to know:
> Use only approved, high quality electrical devices, equipments and wiring
> Ensure windows are not barred, as they could be used as exits in a fire
> Never leave electrical wires uninsulated or run them under the carpet; keep them well maintained
> Keep a minimum one metre distance between any fire or heat source and inflammable items
> Homes and villas should have external exits
> Keep the exits free and unblocked
> Unplug electrical wires from sockets if not in use; switch off to prevent children accessing them
> Unsafe use of candles and fumigators is a major cause of fire
What to do in a fire:
> Evacuate the premises immediately
> Call the fire department on 997
> Close the door to delay spread of the fire
> Try to extinguish the fire without risking your life
> If you have to escape through thick smoke, curve your body and crawl low on your hands and knees. Smoke usually rises to a higher level, leaving a 60 cm-wide gap of clean air close to the ground. Crawling helps you prevent inhaling toxic smoke and fumes
