Shahbaz files libel case against Imran Khan

-

lahore — Additional District and Sessions Judge Azfar Kamal has issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan on a Rs10 billion defamation suit filed by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif over bribe allegations.

Advocate Mustafa Ramday, on behalf of the plaintiff, apprised the court that Imran Khan alleged in a TV programme on April 26 that a Rs10 billion bribe offer was made to him by Shahbaz Sharif.

Imran claimed that Rs10 billion would be given to him if he stopped pursuing the Panama Papers case against the Sharif family. The lawyer said allegations levelled against the plaintiff were not only false, they were also defamatory.

He further said that Imran Khan also failed to tender a public apology despite the fact that he was served a legal notice in May in this regard. He said Imran Khan should pay Rs10 billion in damages for attempting to bring disrepute to the plaintiff.

The court after hearing the arguments issued a notice for July 21 and sought reply from the PTI chief.
