Limit vehicle roof load height to 60cm: Police
umm al quwain — The height of the load on top of vehicles should not exceed 60cm, the Umm Al Quwain Police have warned motorists. The warning comes as the nationwide campaign to ensure an accident-free summer season picks up pace.
“The two-month campaign, to end on September 1, is being launched on all the internal roads and highways,” said Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police Directorate-General.
Traffic accident indicators are still worrying and have a terrible impact on people’s lives and properties, he added.
Major Mohammed Ubaid Al Muhairi, head of traffic and patrols section here, said the campaign coincides with the summer holiday which sees more land trips.
“All drivers need to be careful about the safety of the vehicle, mainly the tyres. Regular maintenance of the vehicle is paramount.”
The height limit of the loads atop the vehicle roof must be strictly observed, he underlined.
“Any vehicle roof load must not be more than 60cm high, otherwise the vehicle will not be stable on the road, and will be hard to control as well.”

observe traffic rules and regulations, Major Muhairi said.
“The asphalt’s high temperature, drivers’ lack of attention, high speeds, long hours of driving and exhaustion, and more importantly, excess vehicle roof loads have been blamed for many accidents during the summer holidays.”
The UAQ police have, meanwhile, deployed more traffic patrols on the roads to clamp down on erring and reckless drivers.
“Careless drivers will be strictly penalised, particularly after the enforcement of the recent traffic rules.” ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
