Qasim stars in SCC win over Singh Diesel

sharjah — Qasim Mohammad fired a fine half century as Sharjah Cricket Club began their campaign with a bang registerin­g a comfortabl­e four-wicket victory over Singh Diesel in the opening match of Pool B in the Sharjah Summer Cup 2017.

Put in to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Singh Diesel made a strong start with opener Waseem Bari cracking a superb 26-ball 38 supported by three boundaries and as many sixes.

Naseeb Khan chipped in with 20 while Asfand Yaar scored 15 to further consolidat­e the innings. Nadir Hussain hit a 21ball 18 while Zeeshan Akmal scored 14 from just five deliveries consisting of two sixes as Singh Diesel posted 140 for seven in 20 overs.

For Sharjah Cricket Club, Asif Mumtaz and Shaiman Anwar both claimed two wickets each.

Chasing a reasonably easier target, Sharjah Cricket Club got off to a rousing start with openers Qasim Mohammad and Chirag Suri posting 39 runs in just over four overs.

Chirag Suri succumbed after smashing a 15-ball 28 supported by two boundaries and an equivalent number of sixes.

Qasim Mohammad carried on his form to smash a 45-ball 50 with the help of three fours and a six to take Sharjah Cricket Club close to the target.

Kashif Dawood scored an unbeaten 13-ball 19 studded with a four and two sixes as Sharjah Cricket Club overhauled the target in the penultimat­e over.
