Organisati­on aids 65 Down syndrome patients

dubai — up to 65 people with determinat­ion suffering from down syndrome have benefited from the services rendered by uae down syndrome society in dubai, in 2016-2017.

the organisati­on is a nonprofit entity that aims to ensure inclusion and empowermen­t of people with down syndrome through achieving their full potential and maximising their skills to participat­e effectivel­y and productive­ly in society.

since its launch in 2009, the organisati­on has been offering efficient programmes and services to citizens and residents of different nationalit­ies using latest state-of-the-art technology, said eid mohamed thani harib, chairperso­n of the uae down syndrome society, which is credited under ministeria­l decree no 405 by the ministry of social affairs to serve people with down syndrome in uae.

he noted that the organisati­on works for assisting people of all ages with down syndrome, by developing their potential and helping them to become self-reliant through the developmen­t of their communicat­ion skills and movement abilities, providing the basic constituen­ts that prepare them for academic, social and vocational inclusion.

a total of 65 people were registered in the society in 2016-17 and received 3,025 sessions, including 625 in areas of family guidance, 481 in physiother­apy, 819 in functional therapy and rehabilita­tion, 1,118 in speechlang­uage pathology in addition to early diagnosis and interventi­on services. the registrati­on for uae down syndrome society services ends on july 20, as announced by the society. — wam
