- Marie Nammour

dubai — A 23-year-old man has been charged at the Court of First Instance with molesting a teenager after blackmailing him with his compromising photos and videos.

According to prosecution records, the Emirati accused seduced the 16-year-old compatriot student after chatting to him on Blackberry Messenger by posing as a woman. With time, he managed to lure the student into sending him some inappropriate photos and video clips.

The complaint dates back to April 25 and was registered at Al Qusais police station.

“A girl added me on messenger without properly introducing herself. I had only her nickname. When I sent her pin code to other contacts on my list, she threatened she knew my place and would tell her brothers to hurt me if I did not send her some inappropriate photos and clips of mine. I did as she wanted,” the 16-yearold student said.

Shortly later, the accused sent an invitation on the same application to the victim. “He told me he was aware of the problem between me and the girl. He asked for Dh7,000 to get her phone and erase the photos, which he claimed he did afterwards. Later, he kept calling me and we became

friends and we would often meet at malls.”

However, in the end of 2016, the accused sent the student messages on WhatsApp telling him that he still had his inappropriate photos.

“He asked me out and later we met at a shopping centre in Mirdif. He took me in his car where he began to sexually harass me. I tried to stop him. He then dropped me back,” the victim told the prosecutor.

The defendant did not contact the student for some time but when he finally did, he started to threaten him again and blackmailed him with the photos.

“He contacted me on WhatsApp and threatened me to circulate the photos unless I met him,” the victim said.

The defendant is accused of blackmailing the student and molesting him.

The victim’s mobile phone, containing all the conversations between him and the defendant, has been kept deposited at the public prosecution as evidence.

The court adjourned the trial to August 22.
