abu dhabi — A series of live performing art shows called ‘Abu Dhabi Unplugged’ — that allows young people to display their innovative talents, creativity, skills and abilities in public — will be introduced in the Capital.

The Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) said the launch event of the live performing series will be on July 21 at Yas Mall from 5pm to 10pm.

The event will be the first in a programme of similar performances in the emirate to provide a platform for youngsters to express their artistic skills through a series of public performances including singing, hip-hop, performing arts, acting, music, stand-up comedy and other artistic performances.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the free shows.

TCA Abu Dhabi said it aims to support the arts scene in the emirate and in the UAE by providing the necessary means to promote local artistic talent and to strengthen its presence both

locally and internationally. The authority “aims to instil a culture of creativity and innovation in the younger generation through an array of cultural, communal and educational programmes”.

Sumayya Al Suwaidi, community events manager at TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “Part of the culture sector’s role at TCA Abu Dhabi is to encourage and embrace local talent. ‘Abu Dhabi Unplugged’ has been produced to highlight the performances of contemporary art and culture such as music animation and performance arts.

“These forms of arts are a vital component of our contemporary culture. They present an interactive platform created to connect us as a community and help us encourage the stars of the future to recreate their own renditions that will ultimately contribute to today’s contemporary culture. ‘Abu Dhabi Unplugged’ will inspire the audience with current emerging talents performing in this series of events.”

Among the performers will be Emirati Mohammad Ahmed Fikree, who is an award-winning animation director and the founder of MohdFikree Studio. Three of his animated films will be shown during the evening including ‘Mad Camel’, ‘Children’ and ‘Girl and It’.

Joining him on the evening will be the UAE based Dubomedy’s Improv Troupe, the first and only comedy and urban arts school in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
