Jiju, Mani slam tons in Globelink’s big win

sharjah — Globelink Weststar and Multiplex Internatio­nal posted huge victories in the Sharjah Summer Cup 2017 organised by Sharjah Cricket Club.

At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the day belonged to Jiju Janardhana­n and Renjith Mani as they blasted brilliant centuries to power Globelink Weststar to a massive 141-run victory over Roaring Lions while Multiplex Internatio­nal outlasted Mir CC by seven wickets.

Roaring Lions’ decision to bowl first turned into a nightmare as Globelink Weststar’s openers Jiju Janardhana­n and Renjith Mani shared a brilliant partnershi­p of 236 runs in just 18.2 overs.

Both of them went on to complete their centuries before Jiju Janardhana­n fell for 117 coming off just 58 deliveries supported by eight boundaries and as many sixes. Renjith Mani also departed the next over smashing a 57-ball 119 with the help of 10 boundaries and nine sixes as Globelink Weststar posted a massive 260 for three in 20 overs.

Chasing an imposing target, Roaring Lions were under pressure from the start. Only Deepak Nicholas made a noteworthy contributi­on of 23-ball 33 as Roaring Lions could muster just 119 for nine in 20 overs.

Renjith Mani starred with the ball as well as he scalped three wickets in his two overs conceding only six runs while Shanib Khasta picked two.

In the other match, Waqas Raja claimed four wickets as Mir CC could achieve only 124 for nine in 20 overs.

Abdul Rehman (30, 21b, 4x4, 1x4) and Fayyaz Ahmed (27, 24b, 1x4, 2x6) were the significan­t scorers for Mir CC.

In reply, Sapandeep Singh fired a 23-ball 46 peppered with an identical four boundaries and sixes while Mohammad Yasir Ali chipped in with an unbeaten 33 from 23 balls containing two fours and three sixes as Multiplex Internatio­nal achieved the target in only 12.4 overs.
