EK521 investigators clarify no ‘engine abnormalities’ found
dubai — Investigators examining a 2016 emergency landing of an Emirates flight in Dubai clarified that there were no mechanical problems leading up to the incident.
A statement issued on Sunday by the United Arab Emirates’ General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) reads: “There were no aircraft systems or engine abnormalities up to the time of the accident”.
The statement also adds that investigators are “working to determine and analyse the human performance factors that influence flight crew actions”.
The August 3, 2016, emergency landing destroyed the Boeing 777300 — with 300 passengers and crew on board — which was travelling from Thiruvananthapuram (India) to Dubai. Though there were no passenger fatalities, a firefighter was killed in a subsequent explosion of the Flight EK521.
The statement from GCAA also raised the number of seriously injured cabin crew members to four.
An Emirates spokesperson, in a statement to Khaleej Times, said: “Our internal investigation
