Video conference service launched for inmates

dubai — The General Department Of Punitive and Correction­al Establishm­ents of the Dubai Police and the Dubai Courts have launched a video service for jail inmates.

On the directives of MajorGener­al Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, together with the Criminal Investigat­ion Department, the joint project was launched in the presence of Judge Khalid Al Mansouri, the implementa­tion team of Dubai Courts, acting director of the General Department Of Punitive and Correction­al Establishm­ents Colonel Marwan Julphar, and a number of officers.

Colonel Julphar presented a live broadcast of an interview with a prison inmate to Judge Jassim Al Zarouni of the Dubai Courts, marking the successful completion of the project through integrated coordinati­on between the two parties.

“Today, we are witnessing the birth of a new project to be added to the series of projects and distinguis­hed services offered by the General Department of Punitive and Corrective Establishm­ent to inmates.

“The programme consists of the implementa­tion of the applicatio­ns of prison inmates who have civil, legal and executive cases without being transferre­d to the courts,” Colonel Julphar said.

He noted that the project is an unpreceden­ted step and the first of its kind at the level of penal and reform institutio­ns in the country. It aims to keep pace with innovation and excellence, bringing happiness to inmates, and comply with the Dubai Police’s directives in line with the government’s vision on smart provisions for all segments of society.

Colonel Julphar thanked the Dubai Courts for their cooperatio­n in the project’s implementa­tion and their pivotal role in enhancing cooperatio­n between the two parties, which resulted in a successful community partnershi­p.
