Perilli traps gold medal
todi (italy) — San Marino’s Alessandra Perilli won the trap gold on the final day of the third edition of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Women’s Shooting Championship that concluded at the Italian hilltop town of Todi on Sunday.
Five times gold medalist Alessandra, 29, has won three World Cup titles and has also won two silver medals in her 10-year-long career.
Jessica Rossi, 25, bagged the Silver medal. The Italian shooter has won 20 international medals in her decade-long career. The bronze was won by 33-year-old Slovakian shooter Zuzana RehákŠtefečeková, a two-time Olympic silver medalist. Lebanese shooter, Ray Bassil, who had won gold at the 2016 Cyprus World Cup, was off colour and had to settle for the fourth place.
The coincidence was that the top six shooters in the qualifiers retained their positions in the final.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Khalid Al Nahyan and Sheikha Hamda bint Khalifa bin Khalid AL Nahyan presented the medals and other prizes to the winners.
Also present for closing ceremony were, Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, chairman of the higher organising committee of the championship, Saqr Nasser Al Raisi, UAE ambassador to Italy, Arif Al Awani, secretary general of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Luciano Rossi, vice president of the International Shooting Federatin and Hazim Hossni, chairman of the African Shooting Federations.
Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi praised the standard of the championship in which top shooters in the world participated.
The organising committee honored Mohammed bin Khalifa and the UAE ambassador to Italy.
“We are very happy at the progress of the multi-round championship, which tours the world,” Al Raisi said.
“We believe that there’s need for more women shooting championships in the world,” he remarked.
He also added that the performances and scores by shooters in this championship in Todi were beyond expectations,
HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s International Shooting Championship is a prestigious event comprising of six International Shooting Competitions aiming to encourage and support shooting among women.
