Dh4.7M to support 31 student scholarships
abu dhabi — A group of 31 students have been qualified for university scholarships under the ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge’ project of the Zakat Fund and will receive Dh4.68 million to fund their scholarships.
Abdullah bin Aqueeda Al Muhairi, secretary-general of the Zakat Fund, stated the project will cover the expenses of the university students who received their scholarships from the beginning of their course until graduation. This project is part of a series of projects to support the underprivileged which was launched in 2010.
During his meeting with the university students and their families at the fund’s headquarters, Al Muhairi said: “The plan will also contribute to the co-ordination between the families and the Zakat Fund, to overcome the challenges in supporting the students’ education.
The conditions of the scholarships state that the Zakat Fund should pay Dh20,000 per semester, or around Dh40,000 per year, totalling Dh160,000 during a four year period, with the exception of medical and engineering courses that will total Dh200,000. The students or the universities must cover the cost of any additional certificates, along with the quarterly fees at the start of the semester after registration, as well as further academic courses after completing their examinations.
The students have the right to transfer to another university or subject, on condition that they can only transfer once between six universities and all their branches, which are approved by the fund.
These universities are Abu Dhabi University, Sharjah University, Al Ain University for Sciences and Technology, Khawarizmi International College and ALHOSN University. The scholarship conditions also state that the students’ total fees should not exceed the fees approved by the payment committee.”
