WE’RE PARTNERS IN GIVING: FATIMA

Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, congratulated Emirati women on the occasion of the annual celebration of Emirati Women’s Day.

The 3rd Emirati Women’s Day is being held under the slogan ‘Women are Partners in Giving’, in appreciation of their giving and role in the community, along with their contribution to the UAE’s development. Sheikha Fatima urged women to persevere in education and actively work in all sectors, as well as in raising their children.

In her speech on the occasion, she stressed that the UAE’s wise leadership, led by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deserve appreciation and praise for supporting Emirati women. They have adopted the values promoted by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who encouraged and empowered women, leading them to occupy the highest educational and professional positions, she noted.

Sheikha Fatima added that the honouring of Emirati women is primarily directed to the mothers and wives of martyrs and their families this year, as they have made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their precious sons and husbands for the nation’s security.

In line with the Year of Giving, women have also proven their ability in the country’s various initiatives and by assisting all vulnerable categories in the community. The nature of UAE’s giving initiatives includes and involves women and all community members, encompassing the lessons on humanitarian action taught by the late Sheikh Zayed.

The “Mother of the UAE” added that Emirati women have a great responsibility to pay back the nation and participate in the ongoing work and values of volunteering and social responsibility. She confirmed their readiness to take part in charitable works using their talents and capabilities as mothers, wives and employees.

Sheikha Fatima said that giving and volunteerism represents a slogan adopted by Emirati women, through their efforts towards themselves and their families, as well as their success in all areas of education and work. All sectors of the community have a social responsibility to make women strategic partners and cornerstones of community service and the nation. At the end of her speech, Sheikha Fatima urged all UAE nationals to adopt the slogan of this year’s Emirati Women’s Day celebrations.— Wam
