Century peg: Nikon unveils 45.7MP beast
dubai — Nikon wants you to join them in celebrating its 100th year with one reason.
The Tokyo-based tech firm on Sunday unveiled the new Nikon D850 full frame camera in the UAE, boasting a 45.7MP CMOS sensor and other advanced features aimed at professionals and serious hobbyists.
A full frame camera uses a sensor equivalent to 35mm film, and is the largest available without a user upgrading to more expensive ones. It also performs better in low-light situations.
“We believe that [the D850] will have a big impact on photographers to make videos and photos greater,” Narendra Menon, managing director of Nikon Middle East, said.
The D850 is Nikon’s first offering on its 100th, which it marked on July 24. The company says the device delivers speed and resolution, key features sought by both professionals and storytellers using a camera. It also offers a continuous shooting mode of up to nine frames per second.
Auto exposure is enabled in low-light and other certain situations because of a dynamic range of native ISO 64 to 25600, plus an extended low metering limit. It also has the ability to shoot videos in 4K UHD, 4x/5x slow motion in full HD and 8K time-lapse.
Khaleej Times was able to test the D850, and initial results showed its potential; photos taken in a dark room were significantly brighter — and with sharp detail — on the device.
On hand was Marsel Van Oosten, a multi-award-winning nature and wildlife photographer, who gave an account of his experience with the D850. Menon said that Van Oosten was the first to take prototypes for actual use — ahead of even those at Nikon.
The Nikon D850 will be available in September and its bodyonly price will be at Dh12,999. A separate bundle coming with an AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm lens will also be made available.
