Cabbie in prison for threatening woman
dubai — A taxi driver, accused of trespassing into a woman’s house premises and threatening to kill her and her family unless she helped him financially, has been sentenced to six months in jail.
According to public prosecution records, the driver — a 27-year-old from India — sneaked into the Russian woman’s property in Al Barsha on May 8 and threatened to kill her if she reported him to the police.
The complainant, who is a businesswoman, said the driver threatened her through a note he left on her car’s windshield.
“I discovered the note around 7.20am. It was handwritten and the one who wrote it was asking for financial help. He threatened to kill me, my son and my husband if I complained to the police.”
According to the woman, the writer of the note also threatened that he would still have his gun pointed at her even if he was behind bars.
The man was found guilty of making criminal threats, blackmailing and trespassing. The Court of First Instance ordered that he be deported after serving his six-month jail term.
The defendant confessed during the police interrogation and public prosecution investigation that he made his way into the complainant’s property and issued criminal threats against herself and her family.
He has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days.
