Over 1,905 prisoners pardoned

dubai — The UAE leadership has ordered the release of 1,602 prisoners across the country ahead of Eid Al Adha.

On Monday, the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered the release of 803 prisoners in Abu Dhabi. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 543 prisoners of different nationalit­ies from Dubai’s correction­al and punitive establishm­ents on Tuesday.

Attorney-General of Dubai, Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan, said this order will bring happiness to the families and support the prisoners in reintegrat­ing into the community.

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 117 prisoners. Prisoners who exhibited good conduct and those with debts were among those who were pardoned.

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, ordered the release of 305 prisoners while His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 92 prisoners who showed good conduct. His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, also ordered the release of 47 prisoners. Major-General Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, said that this gesture would give the pardoned inmates a chance to begin a new chapter in their lives. — Wam
