Get hunting gear licence in just 10 minutes
abu dhabi — Obtaining licence for hunting weapons is made easier for the UAE nationals. Emiratis who wish to own hunting weapons will get a licence authorising them to buy one in less than 10 minutes at the hunting and equestrian exhibition in the capital, according to a top police officer.
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said at the announcement of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting & Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex 2017) on Sunday that a smart application is available on the website of the Interior Ministry to introduce the procedure for obtaining a licence before the beginning of the exhibition.
“The Security Committee has set a number of requirements for nationals to obtain licences from Adihex,” said Al Rumaithi.
“The UAE nationals wishing to buy hunting weapons should present a certificate of good conduct, issued by an office at the exhibition that was set for this purpose, with all the required equipment to issue the certificate within less than 10 minutes so as to facilitate the procedure and provide an excellent service.”

He noted that the security committee gives special attention to the issue of awareness among holders of hunting weapons.
“These measures are in line with the directives of the police command to ensure the safety of visitors and participants and implement an advanced mechanism for regulating the sale and purchase of weapons and monitoring companies that supply weapons,” said Al Rumaithi.
Abdullah Batti Al Qubaisi, director of Adihex 2017, said: “Over the years, Adihex has effectively grown into an international gathering to display the aspects of human heritage in an advanced and appealing way. We are also expecting the exciting activities and events to attract more than 100,000 visitors over five days. “The new edition is characterised with the participation of 68 new exhibitors from around the world and 163 Emirati companies, compared to 126 Emirati companies in 2016.”
Heritage flavour
Emirati culture, heritage and traditions are as much at the forefront of Adihex, as is sustainable hunting.
According to Majed Ali Al Mansouri, chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of Adihex, the exhibition provides visitors with a unique heritage flavour that reconciles between modern technologies and the safeguard of global environmental balance.
“In Abu Dhabi, we are constantly providing new platforms to draw attention to the Emirati heritage and environment in a unique way that appeals to the larger public from all over the world. In this context, Adihex has been witnessing a spectacular success, being a one-of-its-kind exhibition in the whole region,” he said.
“Adihex has succeeded in promoting the efforts of the UAE in the fields of sustainable hunting and the protection of falcons by means of the Sheikh Zayed Falcon Release programme, which has managed to release back into the wild more than 1,800 falcons. These efforts also owe their success to the participation of falconers in the programme, the use of falcons bred into captivity and the encouragement of farmers to breed hybrid falcons.”
Inspired by Year of Giving, there is an added attraction in the annual event. At a majlis-like area for public gatherings, visitors will experience cultural presentations, art workshops and heritage exhibitions, while exploring different Emirati traditional norms.
Also new at the Adihex, is an exhibition of art and live graffiti, highlighting elements of heritage on the cultural scene. A workshop will be organised on the sidelines of the exhibition with the participation of artists from the UAE and abroad.
The camel auction is back this year at the Arena, along with other shows and events including the K9 Police dogs, horse auction, horse shows and, for the first time, animal shows by the Emirates Park Zoo.
