Yemen’s AG visits central jail, calls for speedy justice
dubai — Yemen’s attorney general Dr Ali Ahmed Al Awash, on Wednesday visited the central prison and viewed the conditions of the jail at Al Mansoura area in the temporary capital Aden, and the difficulties faced by the wardens and officials .
During his inspection tour, Dr Al Awash was briefed by the chairman of the criminal prosecution in Aden and the investigation department as well as the director of the prison on the conditions of the jail.
He directed them to speed up the investigation procedures and review the issues of the inmates, especially those detained in terrorism cases, and whose files have been received by the public prosecution .
He stressed the need for considering the legal rights of the prisoners in the two phases of investigation and trial.
Dr Al Awash urged the members of the public prosecution to discharge their duties diligently, and verify the legality of imprisonment.
He also called upon those in charge of the prisons department to perform their duties towards improving the conditions of the prisons and the prisoners as per the law governing the streamlining of jails.
He also asked the prison managements not to remand any prisoner in jail or release him without judicial order from the public prosecution.
And as part of updating the functioning of the prosecutions and courts, Dr Al Awash underlined the need that the judicial wheel has started rolling, and will continue to deliver rulings on the lawsuits referred by the public prosecutions.
