Coming soon: Drive thru service to pay fines
dubai — Residents will soon be able to pay all of their traffic fines through a drive thru service in a few locations around Dubai, the general director of the Smart Services Department at Dubai Police, Khalid Al Razooqi, said.
Speaking to Khaleej Times at the first day of the Gitex Technology Week, Al Razooqi said that the drive thru services will be available in the Last Exit locations in the emirates. The Last Exit is a project by Meeras located in areas such as Al Qudra and Al Khawaneej include a food truck park.
“As part of the Smart Police Station, the drive thru has been built for the drivers, so people can pay the fines. It will be available in majority of Last Exits,” Al Razooqi said. “You can go in your car and pay your fines there if you need to.
“This means you don’t have to come to the traffic department to pay fines, there is a more convenient way to do this and the smart office has been working on methods on how services can be improved. The drive thru is a smart way to pay your traffic fines. If you have any traffic fines you have to pay or have any queries, you can use the drive thru as there will be 19 services.”
The Dubai Police has launched other smart ways for residents to pay their traffic fines in the past, including being able to pay through kiosks and online payments.
Driverless motorbike
Another new innovation the Dubai Police announced at the Gitex Technology week was a driverless motorbike that will be released onto the streets “soon”. A prototype of the driverless motorbike was on display at the Dubai Police’s exhibition stand.
“We will launch the first driverless motorbike. It’s electric, so it’s part of the green community. It has 360 degree cameras and can detect wanted vehicles, speeding cars and reckless drivers,” Al Razooqi said.
“It can issue driving tickets to any reckless drivers it sees. The way it will work is that the cameras will first capture an image and then it will issue a fine to the driver.”
Automated patrol car
Dubai Police launched a total of 18 new services and initiatives in the first day of the Gitex Technology Week. They also announced another idea they are working on, which is an automated patrol car. Al Razooqi said that the patrol car would be able to monitor the city 24/7 and will send back feedback and any incidents that may have occurred to the panel control system. It also has built in drones, which can be released from the vehicle if it needs to get an aerial view of an incident.
