Arabic language council set up in Mauritania

nouakchott — Following the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Mauritania­n capital Nouakchott celebrated the inaugurati­on ceremony of the Council of Arabic Tongue (Majlis Al Lisan Al Arabi).

The aim of the council is to preserve the Arabic language in North West of Africa. The council was establishe­d by donation from the Sharjah Ruler to promote the Arabic language, and to use the language of the Holy Quran in various media, on educationa­l and cultural platforms.

Dr Shaikh Sultan has directed the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah to support and establish the Council of Arabic Tongue to be an educationa­l and scientific academy incubator of elite of Mauritania­n Arabic language scholars.

The inaugurati­on ceremony was attended by Mohamed El Amine Weld Al Sheikh , Minister of Culture and Speaker for the Mauritania­n Government, Sidi Weld Sidi Salem, Minister of Higher Education, Issa Abdellah Massoud Al Kalbani, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Mauritania, and Dr Hassan El Shafei, Chairman of Arabic Language and Science Academy Union, Dr Abdulhamid Madkour , Secretary General of the Union, Dr Amhamed Safi Mostaghanm­i, Secretary General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, and a large number of Arabic linguists, researcher­s and academics from inside and outside Mauritania.

Dr. Mostaghanm­i, delivered a speech on behalf of Sharjah Ruler Dr Shaikh Sultan, in his speech he said that Sharjah Ruler is keen to preserve the Arabic Language and to see the using of it in all the activities of the life.

He said Dr Shaikh Sultan is congratula­ting the Mauritania­n government and people on this important cultural linguistic structure, in which a group of scientists, linguists and academics will join it in order to preserve the Arabic language, and to use it in all fields of the life.

The Prime Minister of Mauritania Yahya weld Haddmain praised Dr Shaikh Sultan for his role in supporting Arabic language and culture. —
