ANIB XI on Top emerge champs

dubai — ANIB XI on Top showed class as they trounced Brother Gas by seven wickets to clinch the ICCA Summer Cricket League (SCL) 2017 T20 tournament, organized by the ICC Cricket Academy at the academy grounds at the Dubai Sports City.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Brother Gas had a bad start as four wickets fell for just 13 runs. Among the top eight top batsmen only one player — Abid Jutt (13) managed to reach double figure.

Slipping further to 50 for eight, Brother Gas had lost the plot. Sabarish Karkala (14, 18b, 2x4) and Saravanan Swami (15, 13b, 2x6) put up a brief resistance but that hardly mattered as Brother Gas were all out for a meagre 78 in 17.1 overs. For ANIB XI on Top, Captain Neville Pereira claimed three wickets in his three overs giving away only six runs while Naveed Siddiqui and Ahsan Shahzad bagged two each in an innings dominated by the bowlers.

Chasing a paltry target, ANIB XI on Top openers Rajesh Kotta and Mahesh Shetty powered to a 32-run partnershi­p to make the road to victory further easier. Rajesh Kotta hit a 16-ball 21 supported by four boundaries and Mahesh Shetty played a steady 34-ball 30 containing four fours and a sixt as ANIB XI on Top achieved the target in 11.2 overs. > Brief scores: > ANIB XI on Top bt Brother Gas by 7 wickets.
