Use voice commands to pay traffic fines

- Amira Agarib

dubai — You can now avail of police services using voice commands via the Dubai Police app. The voice commands are received and processed by an artificial intelligence system.

The first phase of the ‘Amna’ service — which was announced during the Gitex Technology Week — lets residents access services related to payment of fines.

Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, director-general of smart services at the Dubai Police, said the 24/7 feature will save the time and efforts of customers.

Ahmed Qaed, director of technical projects at the general department of smart services, said customers can avail of services by just giving voice commands using the police app. “For example, if the applicant wants to obtain a criminal case search service, he can submit his identity number and personal information to the service and complete all the procedures in voice commands.”

Meanwhile, a tiny radar – dubbed as one of the smallest devices in the world — to catch motorists who fail to halt their vehicles on seeing the stop signs engaged on school buses was launched by the Dubai Police.

Named ‘Bat’, the radar which can operate on solar energy will function with a card equipped with a charger, and will have a ‘power bank’. The radar, equipped with 3D technology, would be remote-controlled.

Director-general of Dubai traffic police Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei said that the new device — which was exhibited at GITEX show -— will be installed at the beginning of the ‘stop’ signs in school buses to monitor those who bypass these signals.
