Sharjah Int’l posts strong figures in nine months

sharjah — Sharjah Internatio­nal Airport achieved a 3.29 per cent growth in passenger traffic during the first nine months of 2017.

The total number of passengers that passed through Sharjah Internatio­nal Airport in the first nine months of 2017 grew to 8.611 million passengers, up from 8.336 million during the correspond­ing period last year.

The airport handled 3.118 million passengers in the third quarter of 2017, a 4.08 per cent increase compared with the 2.996 million reported during the third quarter of 2016. Aircraft movement increased to 21,000 in the third quarter of 2017, a 3.26 per cent rise compared with over 20,000 during the same period in 2016.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority, said the positive results in terms of the number of passengers, volume of aircraft movement reflect the excellent position of Sharjah Internatio­nal Airport and the continuous efforts made by the airport, under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in developing services and providing the best facilities and procedures to passengers and customers to ensure a comfortabl­e travel experience through the airport.

“We are committed to continue working with our strategic partners and looking for more growth opportunit­ies to expand the airport capacity, keep pace with developmen­t and expansion and meet the needs of various markets through attracting more internatio­nal airlines,” Al Midfa added.
