League still a long way to go, say coaches
dubai — Al Wasl coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena and his opposite number at Al Wahda Laurentiu Reghecampf said that the League was not won or lost yet and added that it still was a long road ahead for it to be decided.
The two clubs locked horns in a top-of-the-table fixture in the Arabian Gulf League and true to their standing, it was a top draw clash.
And to add to it, it was a fantastic atmosphere with close to 9000 home and away fans filling the Zabeel Stadium, the biggest turnout so far this season.
Nonetheless, Arruabarrena and Reghecampf felt it is still early days to make a judgement. The League is just four fixtures into the new season.
“Maybe to be in the top is nothing. This is just the beginning. It is important to start well but more important to finish well,” said Arruabarrena.
Despite the loss, Reghecampf was impressed by the style of play shown by his men.
“It is a long championship. It is just four games. If we continue to play like this, we have a chance in the League,” the Romanian said.
Both were of the view that it was a great match with Arruabarrena saying that a draw would have been a fair result.
“It was a great match, good situations, good fans and a good atmosphere. We played against a strong team. But the reality is it could’ve been a draw. When we are in such situations, we have to try something different. We have to improve and correct the mistakes. We have to keep working on it,” Arruabarrena said.
Meanwhile, Reghecampf said that he wasn’t disappointed with the defeat. “It was a very good game and I would like to congratulate both teams for a very good match. I have to say that I’m not disappointed about the game we played. This is football and it happens.”
