Sharjah ready to tackle rains
sharjah — Precautionary measures and preparations for the upcoming rainy season have been completed by the emergency committee of the Sharjah Municipality.
Thabit Al Turaifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality, said that all sections of the municipality worked to develop an integrated plan to deal with water clogging and ensuring smooth traffic flow during the rain.
“The municipality is making great efforts to achieve the highest level of safety and comfort to the public as well as maintaining the aesthetic image of the emirate.
It has recently carried out intensified work to clean the openings of rainwater drainage networks throughout the city. It has also completed the necessary maintenance of equipment to deal with the water ponds.”
Al Turaifi praised the efforts of the Higher Committee for Rain Emergency for their works last year in draining water from the streets. He said the municipality is keen to ensure the safety of the workers and protect them from any risks that they may be exposed to during their work under unusual weather conditions.

Hassan Al Tafa’q, assistant director-general of agriculture and environment, said the municipality works in constant coordination with other departments concerned during the rainy season.
“The municipality has completed the maintenance to the drainage network in the city to be capable of absorbing large quantities of rainwater. Emergency teams will be deployed in vital areas during and after the rain,” he said.
