Sharjah ready to tackle rains

sharjah — Precaution­ary measures and preparatio­ns for the upcoming rainy season have been completed by the emergency committee of the Sharjah Municipali­ty.

Thabit Al Turaifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipali­ty, said that all sections of the municipali­ty worked to develop an integrated plan to deal with water clogging and ensuring smooth traffic flow during the rain.

“The municipali­ty is making great efforts to achieve the highest level of safety and comfort to the public as well as maintainin­g the aesthetic image of the emirate.

It has recently carried out intensifie­d work to clean the openings of rainwater drainage networks throughout the city. It has also completed the necessary maintenanc­e of equipment to deal with the water ponds.”

Al Turaifi praised the efforts of the Higher Committee for Rain Emergency for their works last year in draining water from the streets. He said the municipali­ty is keen to ensure the safety of the workers and protect them from any risks that they may be exposed to during their work under unusual weather conditions.

tious during the rains, follow the instructio­ns of the authoritie­s regarding the use of alternativ­e roads, and not speed on wet roads to avoid accidents. “Any emergency or water clogs can be reported by calling the municipali­ty’s hotline number 993, through smart ser- vices, or through the municipali­ty website. Hassan Al Tafa’q, assistant director-general of agricultur­e and environmen­t, said the municipali­ty works in constant coordinati­on with other department­s concerned during the rainy season.

“The municipali­ty has completed the maintenanc­e to the drainage network in the city to be capable of absorbing large quantities of rainwater. Emergency teams will be deployed in vital areas during and after the rain,” he said.
