Emirati students introduced to scholarshi­p plans

abu dhabi — Hundreds of high performing Emirati students from Grade 12 have been introduced to various scholarshi­p programmes recently.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek) organised a ‘Academic Guidance and Counsellin­g Day’ in cooperatio­n with the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and a number of US universiti­es to encourage students to pursue higher education and obtain degrees from prestigiou­s universiti­es worldwide.

The programme was attended by 350 students studying in public and private schools, including Applied Technology High Schools and Secondary Technical Schools, in Abu Dhabi.

Dr Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Adek’s higher education executive director, said: “Adek’s guidance and scholarshi­p division has been proactive in supporting parents and counsellor­s by providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectivel­y support students.” Sultana Al Ketbi, Adek’s guidance and scholarshi­p acting division manager, said: “We organise over 15 events and meetings every year for Emirati students. The Guidance Day is Adek’s first event that brings together Grade 12 students with representa­tives from 15 US universiti­es as well as the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi,” said Al Ketbi.

“We keen on providing Emirati students across Abu Dhabi schools with the necessary support in terms of academic and career guidance.”

Adek’s staff pay regular visits to various schools and meet Grade 12 students in order to keep them updated about the requiremen­ts of applying and studying abroad.
