umm al quwain — Two boys — aged 5 and 10 — were killed after the car they were travelling in rammed into a trailer here on Tuesday morning.

The accident took place on Emirates Road going in the direction of Sharjah, a top police official said.

Col Hassan Ali Bin Sarm, director of the UAQ civil defence department, said that four other passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries in the collision, involving a white saloon with an Ajman number plate and a long trailer.

“We got information that six people were stuck in a two-car road collision on the Emirates Road (ex-bypass road) in the direction of Sharjah.”

The rescue teams rushed to the site, and used sophisticated hydraulic devices to retrieve the trapped passengers, he added.

“Unfortunately, two children died on the spot due to the terrible impact of the collision, while four others received several minor to moderate injuries.”

The bodies were shifted to the hospital morgue, while the injured were rushed there for treatment and medical care.

Col Bin Sarm urged all drivers to be careful when driving on highways. “All drivers need to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations, mainly speed limit, fasten seat belts, and leave enough safety space.

“The public is urged to immediately report any such accidents to toll free number 999 or 997,” he said.

A few days ago, a 28-yearold Emirati woman and her three-year-old daughter sustained injuries after the SUV they were travelling in overturned in the emirate. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
