ras al khaimah — As many as 78,435 people have availed of the 55 per cent discount on all types of traffic fines in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) so far.

Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-inChief of the RAK Police, said: “The discount offer, spanning all types of traffic fines, including vehicle impoundment, was initially launched to mark the 7th anniversary of the ascension day of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.”

To avail of the offer, motorists have to pay the fines at the traffic and licensing centres and police stations, Al Nuaimi added.

He said that the decision is in line with the RAK Police initiatives to bring happiness to customers. “The move will reduce financial burden on all members of the society.”

Meanwhile, official records show that fixed and portable radars have detected 219,746 speeding drivers in the first nine months of this year. “These fixed and portable radars on the roads will also help reduce traffic accidents in the emirate,” said the RAK Police chief.

The 32-day grace period announced on November 1, which was scheduled to end on Wednesday, has been extended for 17 more days, on the occasion of the UAE National Day.
