Emirati boy hurt in RAK run-over accident
ras al khaimah — A 10-yearold Emirati boy, identified as M.R., sustained severe injuries after he was run over by a car while crossing the road to get a ball he was playing with.
The incident took place at the Azan area, 35km south of Ras Al Khaimah city, according to Captain Ibrahim Saif Al Mazrouie, manager of traffic and patrols branch at the Daqdaqa police station.
“As per the medical report, the little boy sustained grave injuries, the most serious of which were a brain haemorrhage, a fracture in his skull and several fractures in his right hip and left leg.”
The boy bled excessively that he was airlifted to the Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, and then to the Rashid hospital in Dubai. “He went through several emergency operations in his head, leg and face,” he added.
Though the Emirati boy sustained serious injuries, he regained consciousness due to prompt intervention, said Captain Mazrouie. “The boy’s condition is stable and he is speaking normally.”
Investigation showed the accident occurred when the boy was playing football with other kids. “The boy ran out of the playground to get the ball back, but he failed to notice a passing car that ran over him.”
The enactment showed that the driver involved in the accident, a 28-year-old Emirati man, was driving his car at the set speed of 40 to 60kmph.
Residents of Azan urged the bodies concerned to take action to ensure road users’ safety. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
