Indian missions to mark Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

dubai — The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate-General of India in Dubai will jointly hear grievances of the members of the Indian diaspora in the UAE, on the occasion of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Messages collected at the event will be shared with government officials in New Delhi, according to the officials.

Unlike previous years, diplomatic missions in both emirates have decided to organise joint celebratio­ns at the Indian Consulate auditorium in Dubai today, between 7pm and 9pm.

Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri and ConsulGene­ral Vipul will convene discussion­s and celebratio­ns for the day.

Vipul told Khaleej Times: “This time we’ve taken a slightly different approach to observing the day. We’ve invited prominent members of the Indian community to bring forward their grievances which will be shared with officials in Delhi.”

Vipul also stated that discussion­s will take place regarding the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), and what more can be done to involve the community on a larger scale.

Indian diplomatic missions all over the world will celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas today to honour contributi­ons made by members of the Indian diaspora, and to commemorat­e the day Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa. It is observed by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. Suri and Vipul will address the audience. Members of the Indian diaspora will also be felicitate­d at the event.
