Indian minister to honour iconic NRIs

Dubai – Indian Minister for the State of External Affairs General VK Singh will honour 25 iconic Indians, belonging to various sectors, from across the UAE on January 20. The first edition of ‘Iconic NRI Awards’ will take place at Grand Hyatt Dubai and the event will also honour four UAE dignitarie­s for their support and encouragem­ent towards the Indian community. Leading Indians in business, education, art, the service industry, and other sectors platforms will be rewarded for their efforts.

The event will be attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, Navdeep Singh Suri, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, and Vipul, Consul General of India. The event is being organised by the newly launched NRI Media, a private company created to cater to the needs and interests of the Indian community in the UAE.

Afi Ahmed, CEO and founder of NRI Media announced in a press release: “There are an estimated 2.8 million NRIs who have made UAE their home. While some of them have received awards constitute­d by the Indian government, there has been no one to honour them within their own terrain. This award aspires to bridge the gap.”

The UAE Indians who have uplifted expatriate­s by creating employment opportunit­ies and have contribute­d to the allround excellence of Indians will be awarded at the ceremony. The award recipients will be announced on January 19. The event will be attended by leading members of the NRI community, including the country’s high-flying achievers, decision makers, goodwill ambassador­s, profession­als and businessme­n.
