Fake CID officer on trial for raping woman in car

dubai — A 23-year-old man, who allegedly raped a taxi passenger after impersonat­ing as a police officer, faced charges in the Court of First Instance on Sunday.

Public prosecutio­n records show that on March 31, 2014, in Al Qusais, the Jordanian man working as an inspector, intercepte­d the cab the Moroccan victim was travelling and took her away as she had just stepped off the taxi to his car where he raped her later.

The accused denied the charge and claimed it was a consensual sex for Dh1,000. He told the investigat­ors the woman had run away and he did not pay her.

The victim, a hairdresse­r, 24, said she was coming back in a taxi from a night club in Bur Dubai at around 4am when a man standing near her place stopped the taxi and asked for her ID.

A Moroccan waiter, 36, said he was with the victim in the taxi that was about to drop her at her friend’s flat. “A man suddenly came from the parking lot and told the driver to stop.

“He asked me about my residence and learned I stayed in Dubai and then told me to leave. He said the woman should go with him as she resided in Al Ain and had been drinking alcohol,” the waiter said. “When I refused to leave, he threatened he would have a police patrol car take me into custody. The trial will continue on January 30.
