dubai — A hotel manager, who allegedly sexually harassed an employee in the meeting room of the same hotel, has been charged in court.

The 50-year-old Sri Lankan man was reported to Al Barsha Police Station on December 12, 2017.

He denied a sexual harassment charge in the Court of First Instance. The Filipina complainant, 37, said that she went to the meeting room after the staff meeting. “I brought with me the formal staff uniform to show it to a manager. After that, as I was about to leave I was approached by the defendant, who placed his hand on my back,” the woman said.

“He said ‘I thought you had resigned’ while his hand was still on my back. He then groped me twice. I got scared, left immediately and went to my office. I informed my manager about it and then filed a complaint at Al Barsha Police Station,” the employee added.

Another employee, a 45-yearold Pakistani, confirmed the woman’s accusations. “We were in the meeting room when I saw the accused rubbing the complainant’s back. She walked away from him and went to her office,” the witness told the prosecutor. “We went later with her to lodge a complaint at the police station. I gave a statement about the incident.”

The court will hand down a ruling on January 29.
