Unlicensed doctors carry out abortions in Dubai
dubai — The Dubai Health Authority, joining hands with the Dubai Police, arrested unlicensed and unauthorised doctors who were carrying out abortions as well as surgeries in a flat. They also seized equipment and unregistered drugs from the place.
The health ministry had been tipped off about unauthorised doctors performing abortions without permits in a residential apartment.
The ministry informed the Dubai Police which swooped down on the flat and confiscated equipment as well as medicines used for the illegal operations. Many other serious violations were also detected.
The police pointed out that the unauthorised doctors were charged with endangering life of people and referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution. Penalties would be imposed on suspects, who practised medicine without a licence.
Meanwhile, Dr Marwan Al Mulla, director of the Health Insurance Department, said the health ministry and the police team nabbed unauthorised persons who carried out illegal medical practices inside the residential apartment. The patients were deceived into believing that it was a licensed medical facility run by licensed doctors, he added.
The implementation of Executive Council Resolution (No. 32 of 2012) on the regulation of medical practice in Dubai includes appropriate penalties for violators. It guarantees quality of services provided in the medical sector and

Dr Mulla added that the authority has developed an innovative mechanism to detect and monitor irregularities, including the Weyak initiative, which aims to consolidate the bridges of cooperation between the authority and the private health sector.
The health ministry and the Dubai Police called on people to be wary about irregularities or illegal medical practices, and report them to the police. They should be careful while dealing with advertisements through social media, and investigate the credibility of such ads before seeking treatment or hospitalisation.
