research centres soon to boost knowledge economy
abu dhabi — A national plan will see medical research centres set up across the UAE “to bring about a comprehensive development of the UAE’s health economy”, it was announced on Sunday. The setting up of the research centres aims to better study and understand the medical challenges facing the UAE community and ways to provide the necessary health services for the coming decades.
The national plan was approved during a Cabinet meeting on Sunday chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.
The Cabinet also approved a Dh7 billion plan to establish 7,270 housing units for Emiratis over the next three years. Sheikh Mohammed said: “Today, 80 per cent of our people have their own homes; it is the highest globally.
“Having their own home ensures families’ tranquillity and living a decent life. The UAE will not stop supporting its citizens and providing a better and happier life for them.
Our financial resources will be harnessed for their service and our human cadres are working for their benefit. Our government will continue to measure their success and happiness.”
Sheikh Mohammed has issued instructions to provide Emirati residential neighbourhoods with the latest infrastructure that takes into consideration sustainability specifications and provision of green environment as well as healthy and clean atmosphere.
The Cabinet also issued a resolution on community green spaces planned for educational institutions, residential complexes and government buildings. The resolution is in line with the UAE Vision 2021 to establish an integrated lifestyle enhanced by outstanding government services, and the development of diverse social and cultural activities in a healthy and rich natural environment.
The Cabinet also passed a resolution on the cultivation of local plants and nature conservation in order to preserve the natural habitat and increase the natural vegetation in the UAE.
The Cabinet ratified a number of international conventions, including accession to the United Nations Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road and the United Nations Convention on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.
The Cabinet also issued a decree forming the board of the General Sports Authority chaired by Major-General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi.
