ARE WE TRULY CONNECTED?

- — Anagha Rajesh, Sharjah

Just as human beings are expanding technologically, we are shrinking emotionally. The world has turned into a small interconnected village, but are we truly connected to each other? In a world where populism and a self-centered approach towards life has taken precedence, we need to understand the significance of going beyond the man-made boundaries which we call national borders. We need to instill in ourselves the spirit of internationalism. While children are taught about patriotism and other important values, they also need to be taught about love towards humanity, towards nature and towards the values on which our society is based. Our identity should not be confined to being an Indian, an American or a Chinese. We need to be internationalists bound by values of tolerance, peace and communal harmony.
