DUBAI — A 25-year-old man, who had come to Dubai on a visit visa, has gone on trial at the Court of First Instance on the charge of possessing 303kg medically-controlled drugs with the intention of selling it in the country.

The Pakistani man was arrested on November 21, 2017, at a hotel room in Naif area.

“I was assigned to be part of a team to nab the defendant after receiving information about a person driving a truck loaded with stashed drugs which he was going to sell,” said a sergeant from the anti-narcotics division of the Dubai Police.

“We were tipped off that he was going to deliver the drugs to another man. We moved to the Jebel Ali Port as we learned a shipment containing drugs would be exiting the port. As we arrived there, we spotted two pick-up trucks leaving the port. We monitored their movement till the Ras Al Khor area — specifically to the customs point at the vegetables and fruits market.

“The suspected shipment was taken out. The defendant then arrived with a pick-up driver and

The anti-narcotics police officers raided his hotel room and questioned him about the boxes. “He claimed the goods belonged to another man and contained new clothes. When we opened the boxes, we found clothes, in which a huge quantity of pills was stashed. All the boxes had pills stashed inside. The defendant had booked two hotel rooms to store the drugs,” the anti-narcotics officer told the prosecutor.

According to the crime lab report, the boxes found in the defendant’s possession and at the hotel rooms contained medically controlled drugs and weighed more than 303kg.
