dubai — A Dubai visitor has gone on trial at the Court of First Instance on charges of assaulting a police officer while drunk.

According to court documents, the 24-year-old Russian woman was drunk when she punched and kicked the female cop all over her body as she was trying to arrest her. She also bit the police sergeant and pulled her by the hair as she was carrying out her duty of taking her into custody.

She denied in court charges of assaulting an on-duty police officer, damage of a public property and drinking alcohol without a licence.

She allegedly damaged the police car’s door and its glass.

The investigating prosecutor referred the visitor, who is currently detained, to the court with recommendation she get the severest penalty as per the law.

The case dates back to February 5 and was reported from the Naif area. “A report came in about a problem outside a hotel. We went to the hotel and found that the accused and another woman had assaulted each other. She would not let me handcuff her but assaulted me instead.

“Other police officers helped me restrain her. She then damaged the police car after she hit the door with her head and kicked it,” the police sergeant told the prosecutor.

A hospital report showed the police officer was left with a bite on her forehead, bruise on her right cheek and a swollen hand.

The court will pronounce a ruling on April 29.
