Academy calls for design of the Majlis of the future
dubai — Do you have what it takes to design the Majlis of the future? If so, the Dubai Future Academy is urging you to put forward your ideas so they can be seen by some of the country’s leading pioneers.
During a roundtable meeting at Dubai’s first fully functional 3Dprinted office on Monday, Saeed Al Gergawi, director of the academy, told Khaleej Times that they are on the lookout for a “modular design” that will fit the needs of a traditional Majlis.
“With this competition, we are taking it back to the original concept of the Majlis, which is all about getting people together. At the Dubai Future Academy, we offer foresight into the future, but the Majlis is a long steeped tradition here so we want to see designs that are minimalist, but forward thinking.”
Full details of the ‘Majlis of the Future’ competition will be released on social media over the next few days but it will be open to all members of the public, with a focus on youth.
The winning designs will be displayed at the 3D office and the Dubai Accelerators Hub in Emirates Towers throughout Ramadan.
Though the academy will not bring the winning design to life, Al Gergawi said leading pioneers who visit the two exhibit locations could very easily take the competition ideas to the fore.
“We focus on ideas, not production, but that does not mean to say these designs won’t be taken up by other entities interested in the designs,” he said.

Al Gergawi also laid out plans for the academy’s upcoming workshops that will be kicking off from this month and throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
As a knowledge platform for the future, the academy aims to empower tomorrow’s future leaders with knowledge and information relevant to futurism and future jobs.
Throughout the 30 nights of Ramadan from 10pm to 12am, it will host its second ‘Pioneers’ series. Inviting pioneers of the future from across the UAE, the academy will host 20 sessions that will be free to the public (prior registration required).
“These speakers will discuss future ideas and issues that impact the UAE. Among the topics under the spotlight include crypto currency, sustainability, and block-chain.”
The third offering from the academy over the period of April and May will be a course on ‘Strategic Foresight’.
This will be open to government and private sector companies and their employees at a cost.
“This course aims to empower employees to do their jobs better. It’s about executive advancement and education. We will provide them with skills and tools in the workplace to adapt to the future,” Al Gergawi said.
