Dh57m to help needy during Ramadan

- Sherouk Zakaria

ajman — An Ajman-based charity will allocate Dh57.5 million for the underprivileged across the country during Ramadan, through its different campaigns.

Human Appeal International (HAI) launched the ‘Make Them Happy’ Ramadan campaign that has a target of Dh57.5 million, a figure which has grown 23 per cent over the last year to support lowincome families and orphans in the UAE and abroad. About Dh20 million has been allocated for Zakat, and Dh5 million for orphans and families in need.

Various health, education and social development projects have also received Dh25 million from the target revenue.

The launch of the campaign highlights the strategies adopted to cover all charitable projects during the Holy Month of Ramadan, which includes four main projects — Zakat Al Fitr, Eid dressing, Iftar and Food donation.

An additional Dh4 million was allotted for Fast Breaking (Iftar), Dh1 million for Eid dressing, Dh2 million for Zakat Al Fitr and Dh500,000 for Food Donation.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, chairman of the appeal’s board of trustees, said they’re targeting to provide over 120,000 underprivileged individuals with meals to break their fast during Ramadan.

“We want to make charitable work a lifestyle for UAE nationals and residents,” he said.

Since its inception in 1984, the charity has supported over 120,000 orphaned children, 62,000 of them from the UAE and the remaining from other countries.

Last year, around 9,000 families received aid. In the past three months, the charity provided financial help to more than 5,000 needy families in the UAE, to pay for electricity and other bills.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah pointed out that the appeal’s efforts to promote philanthropic concepts aims to raise the revenues of its charitable projects in 2018 by 23 per cent, or about Dh232 million, from the Dh194 million of 2017. “Giving is one of Emirati society’s characteristics. There is no doubt that the best time to provide alms, help the poor and needy is the Holy Month of Ramadan. In this context, HAI is keen to launch its Ramadan campaigns, embodying solidarity, brotherhood and compassion among our people.”

The appeal also announced the launch of its new website www. ramadan-hai.ae for implementing the Make Them Happy Ramadan project, which can be used to send donations and Zakat funds by using SMS, bank transfer or electronic payment.

It also allows the public the opportunity to share charitable activities with their friends on social media to motivate them to do good through donations and support for the needy.

Smart system launched

Khaled Abdul Wahab Al Khaja, executive director of the appeal, said a smart system was launched to facilitate the employees’ work in collecting donations and increases their performance. The automated coupons make the collection movement easier and more reliable

The adoption of this smart system continues the Smart Government transformation of the UAE.

The project records movements of the donations in the system immediately at the time they happen, for a safe transaction. It will also accurately monitor, audit and provide administrative supervision of operations as well as financial reports showing the fund balances at any time. The amount available with the delegate at any given moment can also be viewed.

Over 20 points of donation collection are available, including Rumalia association, Safeer Mall in Al Nuaimiya and Rak Mall. “After longtime use of paper coupons to market its projects, HAI is accredited with launching the smart system to offer electronic coupons, which the user sees on the screen and can choose a suitable way of donating, saving time, effort and the environment by reducing paper use,” he said.
