I’m no Musharraf to run away, says Sharif

-

islamabad — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has appealed to the nation to pray for his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who is being treated for cancer at a hospital in London.

Talking to the media persons in the British capital, the former prime minister said he would not leave Pakistan in any circumstances.

He said there was a huge difference between him and Pervez Musharraf. “I am not like Pervez Musharraf who would run away from the country,” Sharif said.

Sharif said none of the cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against him involved corruption, embezzlement or kickbacks. Such cases had never been registered by the NAB in the past, but still he was regularly appearing before the courts.

The situation being created in the country before the next general election has raised questions about holding the same in a free, fair and transparent manner.

A level playing field should be ensured for all the political parties in the country, including the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), he added.

He asked the people to vote for the PML-N in the next general election. All other political parties, he added, were waiting for the “empire’s finger”.

He said, the Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf had voted for the candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party in the Senate election and the PTI chief Imran Khan should be grilled for that.

Sharif went on to say that the talk of a possible imposition of martial law in the country is disturbing.

A court had rejected Sharif’s petition seeking a week long exemption for appearance in corruption cases. Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was elected as Member of the National Assembly but could not take oath due to medical reasons.

She was admitted in the hospital and was recently discharged after chemotherapy and radiation. — APP
