76,560 fake drugs seized in Abu Dhabi

abu dhabi — As many as 76,560 packets of unregister­ed medicines, as well as 136 pharmaceut­ical products, stored in poor condition at an apartment were seized by a team of health inspectors.

Dr Amin Hussein Al Amiri, assistant undersecre­tary for the UAE Ministry of Health’s Public Health Policy and License Sector, said the ministry received tip-off that a huge number of medicine boxes were being transporte­d to an apartment by a car that had the name of a medical company on it.

A team from the ministry, along with the police, raided the apartment, seized the medicines and sent them to laboratory for quality check. The police are investigat­ing to make sure there aren’t more apartments being used for the same purpose. — Wam
