6 held for preventing prayers in Gurugram

-

gurugram — Six people have been arrested by the Gurugram Police for preventing Muslim men from offering Friday prayers on a vacant plot in Wazirabad village here.

Tension had gripped the village after the incident, a video of which has been doing the rounds of social media.

According to the Gurugram Police, around 500 Muslim men had gathered on the plot to offer Friday prayers a week ago.

A number of people, allegedly belonging to a Hindu group, can be seen shouting slogans in the video.

They alleged that Muslim men wanted to grab the land where they offered prayers.

Gautam Saini, the president of the Shiv Sena Gurugram unit, said they would protest the arrest of the six men.

On Friday, they offered prayers under police protection. “In view of the April 20 incident, we have deployed adequate policemen at the village to maintain the law and order situation,” said Ravinder Kumar, the PRO of the Gurugram police. — PTI
