Karama tunnel is set to open
dubai — A new eight-lane tunnel will open to motorists at the Sana traffic intersection in Karama, easing traffic on the perennially crowded junction, it was announced on Saturday. The ride from Al Garhoud Bridge to Al Shindagha tunnel or Port Rashid will be smooth when the tunnel that has four lanes in each direction opens on the Sheikh Rashid Road.
The tunnel is part of the Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed roads intersection project.
dubai — A four-lane tunnel, that will ease traffic on the Sheikh Rashid Road, will be opened to motorists on May 3.
The tunnel, which has four lanes in each direction, connects Garhoud and Mina Rashid.
The tunnel is in the direction of the intersection with Al Mankhool Street. A signalised junction under the bridge will provide free turns from main roads to subsidiary ones.
The tunnel is part of the improvement of the Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed roads intersection project. In February this year, two major bridges that were opened as part of the project had eased traffic towards Karama and the World Trade Center junction in the direction of Sheikh Zayed Road.
The bridge on the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street comprised of two lanes in each direction, and the other one-lane bridge stretched from the Zabeel Street towards the Sheikh Rashid road.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, said: “The project is situated at the intersection of the Sheikh Rashid Road, leading to Al Shandagha northward, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed road, leading to the intersection with Al Kuwait road.”
