Recycled asphalt used in maintaining federal roads
dubai — The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has started using a new technology in repairing and maintaining federal roads using recycled cold asphalt.
As per the project, the soil is prepared without any need to use or transfer new materials to the site, according to Ahmed Al Hammadi, manager of roads department at the ministry.
“This technique involves crushing, mixing, paving and compressing the old asphalt layers with new layers.”
The new layers of asphalt shall then have better properties than the old ones because of being mixed with cement, he added.
“The modern and specialised equipment can dig 30cm deep, extract old layers of asphalt and treat them as per the specifications to ensure their quality, endurance, and long life.”
Al Hammadi pointed out that the

“It is saving time and cost, and long traffic diversions have become history, while the lifetime of the new layers is longer due to added cement.”
