Zayed Van to deliver free food to needy

dubai — A new van bearing the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan that was launched on Sunday will distribute free meals and goodies among the needy. The Zayed Happiness Van will spread joy as it travels through labour accommodat­ions and industrial areas to distribute food and other utilities among the underprivi­leged section of society.

Dubai-based charity Dar Al Ber Society (Dabs) took the van out for its first mission at the Berkely men’s labour accommodat­ion in Al Qouz.

Among the goodies that were distribute­d among the workers were clothes, formal shoes, biryani, ice cream, cookies, fruits, laban, juice and fruits.

The Abu Dhabi Police on Sunday launched ‘Year of Zayed Award’ in recognitio­n of the legacy and values of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.

Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the internal award is aimed at reviving the legacy, inspiratio­nal values and achievemen­ts of the late Sheikh Zayed that placed him as an internatio­nal leader and a beacon for future generation­s.

“We also want to highlight Sheikh Zayed’s commitment to spreading the message of peace and tolerance worldwide,” Al Rumaithi added. As per the award system, the different police department­s will compete through organising a number of initiative­s and activities to cover four main domains, culture and knowledge, environmen­t and sustainabi­lity, giving and humanity and social developmen­t. These activities will focus on the values of ‘Wisdom, Sustainabi­lity, Respect and Human Building’.
