Zayed Van to deliver free food to needy
dubai — A new van bearing the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan that was launched on Sunday will distribute free meals and goodies among the needy. The Zayed Happiness Van will spread joy as it travels through labour accommodations and industrial areas to distribute food and other utilities among the underprivileged section of society.
Dubai-based charity Dar Al Ber Society (Dabs) took the van out for its first mission at the Berkely men’s labour accommodation in Al Qouz.
Among the goodies that were distributed among the workers were clothes, formal shoes, biryani, ice cream, cookies, fruits, laban, juice and fruits.
The Abu Dhabi Police on Sunday launched ‘Year of Zayed Award’ in recognition of the legacy and values of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.
Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the internal award is aimed at reviving the legacy, inspirational values and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed that placed him as an international leader and a beacon for future generations.
“We also want to highlight Sheikh Zayed’s commitment to spreading the message of peace and tolerance worldwide,” Al Rumaithi added. As per the award system, the different police departments will compete through organising a number of initiatives and activities to cover four main domains, culture and knowledge, environment and sustainability, giving and humanity and social development. These activities will focus on the values of ‘Wisdom, Sustainability, Respect and Human Building’.
