Fewa to build more desalination stations
ras al khaimah — The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) will build more desalination stations and water transmission and distribution networks, to meet water demand in various emirates.
Mohammed Saleh, directorgeneral of the authority, said a water desalination station with a capacity of 90 million gallons of water every day will be built soon. “This is added to another station with a daily capacity to produce 30 million gallons at Ghalila area in Ras Al Khaimah. These two stations are to boost the production capacity of the authority to 120 million gallons of water every day.
“These amounts will meet the increasing demands of the residential areas in the emirates of Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman, along with the industrial, commercial and tourism projects.”
Fewa has also established and extended a number of water lines to transmit and distribute water to new residences in the Sheikh Khalifa City of Al Dhait South as well as Daiya area in Al Rams in Ras Al Khaimah. “Further 10km water pipes of 300mm, 400mm, and 600mm have been extended to the Helio area to meet the demands of the residential and investment projects on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
“To handle any emergency situation in the water sector, Fewa has recently installed a 10km water line for transmitting desalinated water from Al Zawra area in Ajman to the main station in Umm Al Quwain,” he added. “More lines of 110mm to 250mm have been extended over 45km to meet the needs of residential areas.”
Also, the Fewa has replaced 100,000 mechanical meters with smart ones. “The remaining 170,000 meters shall be replaced by 2020. — ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
