abu dhabi — Three young men have been accused of gang raping a married woman after abducting her from Al Ain city.

The police arrested the Arab youths, aged between 17 and 25, after investigations confirmed that they had taken turns to sexually assault the woman, the Al Ain Criminal Court of First Instance heard.

The trio abducted the Asian woman from one of the city’s streets after midnight, forced her into their vehicle and took her to a desert area where they raped her one by one. The victim, who works at a shopping mall in the city, had just left her workplace when she was intercepted by the men in a car.

The woman told the prosecutors that one of the men got out of the vehicle and forced her in. She screamed for help while begging the men to leave her alone, but in vain. The victim also offered to give the men money in return for releasing her, but they refused. After the assault on her, they left her in the area where they had picked her from. She then went home and informed her husband; the couple then filed a complaint at the police station.

The woman couldn’t remember the rapists’ faces since it was dark. She did not know the vehicle number plate or the location of the area where they had taken her. After reviewing CCTV camera footage from the abduction spot, the police identified the vehicle used by the defendants.

They launched a search for the vehicle, which was spotted in Al Ain. The police then arrested its driver and his accomplices after confirming that they were the ones who attacked the woman. During the police interrogation, the men confessed to abducting and raping the woman. Prosecutors charged the men with abduction, unlawful detention and rape. However, they denied the charges when they appeared in the court.

The trial was adjourned to a future date for the accused’s lawyer to file for defence.
